Aquathlon Aquathlon is one variant of multi-sport racing where two (or more) sports are combined to make one continuous race. In this case, it is a combination of Swimming and Running. The swim comes first and is followed by the run, a bit like a Triathlon without the cycling leg in the middle. It is a non-stop race so any time you spend between the end of your swim and the start of your run is included in your overall time. The Woking Aquathlon The Woking Aquathlon is a pool based race (others have the swim in a lake, river or the sea) so the start is staggered. This means that the first person to cross the finish line may not be the winner. The run will be in Woking Park and so will be traffic free making it ideal for novice racers and also for the Juniors races which we will be holding for children. Any children who turn 8 in 2009 or older will be able to race. Frequently Asked Questions Do I have to be a good swimmer to take part? No the Aquathlon is for all standards. You should be able to complete the distance but you don't need to do it non-stop. Do I need to be able to run all the way? No you can walk, jog or run. Alot of people starting out find it best to run for a bit, walk for a bit, run again and so on. What do I wear? The best approach is often to swim in what you will run in (apart from your shoes). You could use a "tri suit" or you could pull on a pair of shorts after the swim. It's quite hard to put on clothes when you are wet from the swim so try to avoid this if you can. Also there is a no nudity rule so no changing on poolside and Adults no naked torsos tops must be worn, no exceptions. What if I need support? Just wear your sports bra underneath. I can't swim/run. Can I enter as a relay team? Yes. We will even help you find a relay partner if you would like. Just fill in an entry form and tick the relevant box at the bottom of the page to show which part you would like to do. Am I too old/ too young to enter? There is no upper age limit, if you are fit enough to get round in your own time you are welcome to enter. If you are under 17 or will be 8 years old by the end of 2009 you can enter one of our juniors races. You will need parental consent. |
